River Cult formed in 2015 in Brooklyn, NY with founding members Sean Forlenza (guitar/vox), Anthony Mendolia (bass) and Tav Palumbo (drums). They released their debut EP in 2016 along with a live performance on WFMU radio. The band then released two full length albums with Nasoni Records (Berlin): Halcyon Daze in 2018 and Chilling Effect in 2020. In 2022 they changed their lineup with a new drummer, Eli Pizzuto (ex Naam, Sinister Haze) and this is their new full length record for your consideration entitled High Anxiety. While still retaining their roots as a heavy psych rock band with stoner/doom/noise rock influences the change in personnel and new focus on vocals and tighter knit songs has pushed the band to have a fresh and more refined sound that has propelled the them forward.
